MGT SS27 MKII — Stereo Stethoscope

MGT SS27 MKII is a compact analogue stereo stethoscope designed for discreet listen-through-walls monitoring in challenging environments. The MKII revision focuses on clarity, low distortion and a practical control approach to support quick, field-ready operation.

Through-wall monitoring can involve unpredictable variables (surface coupling, wall materials, electrical interference and wide level variations). For this reason, the SS27 MKII integrates compression and noise-gate functions to help stabilise listening conditions and reduce the need for continuous manual adjustment. Detailed configuration and operating settings are provided via confidential datasheet.

  • Very high sensitivity and low distortion for intelligible audio.
  • Compact and robust construction with straightforward operation.
  • Analogue design with adjustable compression and noise-gate functions.
  • Dual-channel workflow: listen and/or record one or two channels (stereo/mono modes depend on configuration).
  • High-pass filtering to reduce very-low-frequency rumble and line-frequency noise.
  • Rechargeable lithium battery with USB-C charging (5 V sources).

System overview

  • Low-noise amplification inside the microphones, followed by strong high-pass filtering.
  • Response optimised primarily for the human voice energy range (approx. 200–4500 Hz).
  • Dynamic control stage providing compression and noise-gate action before the headphone/line amplifier.

Frequency response (overview)

The SS27 MKII incorporates internal high-pass filtering and response shaping designed to prioritise speech intelligibility during through-wall monitoring.

Rather than maintaining a flat studio-style curve, the analogue signal path is optimised to reduce low-frequency structural rumble and electrical interference, while enhancing the vocal presence region where conversational clarity is most critical.

The combination of low-noise amplification, dynamic compression and noise-gate control contributes to a stable and intelligible listening experience across varying surface materials and environmental conditions.
